Interactive Boaters'
Guide to Okanagan Lake

Time for an Adventure!

Kelowna has it all: an amazing lake, a bunch of beaches, some of the best dining in the province, and breathtaking wine-producing countryside. Kelowna’s also the largest city on Lake Okanagan, a watery paradise that stretches nearly 135 kilometres from Vernon to Penticton. With so much lake to explore, you’ll be itching to rent a boat before you even arrive.

To get you out there exploring, we’ve put together a list of some of our favourite Okanagan Lake destinations, whether you want to boat-in and hike and swim, or stop somewhere to eat on the lake.

Where you should stop

We could go on and on about the different places you can stop on your boating excursion, but we've pulled out some of our favourites for you to anchor at!

North Okanagan

Raymer Bay Beach

This beach is really popular with locals and visitors taking advantage of their boat rental. It offers a sandy beach in a protected cove and even allows overnight moorage. There’s also a picnic area, a playground, and a grassy field to run around on. It’s the perfect destination for boating, exploring, and swimming.

Bear Creek Provincial Park

The day use area at this provincial park is a great place for boaters. With over 400 metres of sandy beaches, you’ll not only have access to one of the nicest beaches around, you’ll also find yourself in an ideal spot for wakeboarding and waterskiing. If you anchor and swim to land, Bear Creek Canyon trail will take you on a demanding loop of the canyon, with spectacular views of Bear Creek!

Just past Bear Creek Park is Traders Cove, with spots that are great for day boaters. There are a couple permanent buoys to tie to and washrooms on shore. Boats can drive right onto the sandy beach to load or unload.

Paul’s Tombcheck fire hazard status before going onshore.

To access this beach via boat, you’ll need to bring an anchor. It’s elusive and definitely worth the trip. Here you’ll find cliffs, picnic tables, and a even a washroom in case you need to take care of some "business". As well as boasting some great views of a gorgeous bay, Paul's Tomb marks it spot in history as being the resting place for an original settler and his wife.

Fancy a hike? Follow the Gordon and Pavilion Trails for amazing city and lake views!

South Okanagan

Kelowna City Park

Just around the corner from our Kelowna marina is the Kelowna City Park. This boating hot spot is a great place to enjoy various water sports. Jet packing not your thing? Enjoy views of Downtown Kelowna from the waters and feel a part of the city buzz without the crowds.

Rattlesnake Island

Located directly east of Peachland, this small island on Okanagan Lake is home to a small beach and legend has it, the Ogopogo! The lake monster lives in a cave on Rattlesnake Island earning the land mass the nickname "Monster Island". Those who are able to swim to and hike Rattlesnake Island will find a derelict theme park that offers views of the Okanagan Lake.

Bertram Creek

Just beyond Cedar Creek is Bertram Creek, a place to dock and load/unload your party. This park has two beaches, walking paths, playground, washrooms, and even a pavilion! As the park was victim to the 2003 Okanagan Mountain Provincial Park forest fire, the Regional District of Central Okanagan asks that you "leave only footprints and take only pictures" as the park continues its recovery.

Pritchard Park

Sitting below the infamous Mission Hill Winery, this family friendly park, just off Boucherie Road, is a great spot to dock your rental boat and meet those on shore for a picnic. Love volleyball? You’re in luck! This park has volleyball courts for the adults, a playground for the kids, picnic tables, washrooms, and a swimming area.

The Okanagan is rife with pubs and restaurants that offer menu items fit for a king or queen, which naturally when renting a boat, you are!

Lake Okanagan Resort – This holiday hot spot caters to the foodie in all of us. The Vantage Pointe Restaurant & Patio offers up outstanding food and an even better view. If you’re looking to beat the sun and surf for an hour, this is the place to go.

Smack Dab At Manteo - They say it’s “simply crazy good food”, we say it’s “simply great deck dining”. With a view of the lake, a cold beverage, and awesome food, you might say “this is the life”.

Kelowna Yacht Club – This lakefront location in downtown Kelowna hosts excellent food and beverage service, social events and opportunities to assist others in the community. The Kelowna Yacht Club is a not-for-profit volunteer-run organization that supports boater education and safe, responsible enjoyment of Okanagan Lake since 1945. It is located directly above the Cactus Club Café so you can dine and enjoy the lakefront views.

Gasthaus Pub - With a beautiful garden patio in the summer, and famous medieval feasts in the winter months, you are sure to have an unforgettable experience at the Gasthaus in Peachland! This wooden medieval style restaurant serves draught on tap, and locally-sourced savoury deliciousness—salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, pasta & pizzas.

Summerland Yacht Club - Customers here have used phrases such as “hidden gem” and “excellent cuisine” to describe this venue. Situated on Lakeshore Drive in Summerland, you can expect great views of the Okanagan Lake and marina with a laid back atmosphere.
