Downtown Marina runs both MasterCraft and Cobalt, and we get asked constantly which one to book, so here's the simplest breakdown, along with what each boat does well.

Quick answer: if wakesurfing or wakeboarding is why you're here, book the MasterCraft XT22 or XT23. Both are built around a real ballast system designed to shape a wave you can ride. The Cobalt R6 and R7 are gorgeous boats and genuinely fun to cruise on, but they don't carry ballast, so they're not going to give you a surf wave. Think of them as the boat you book when the group wants speed and comfort, not a wake to ride.

Wakeboard Boats In Kelowna: What Separates Mastercraft From Cobalt

The R7 is the bigger sibling at 28 feet, seats up to 16, and has this wraparound seating setup that Cobalt's genuinely proud of, they've called it their best boat for ride comfort, and once you're on it, you get why.

1. Assuming any boat with a tower can surf. A tower gets you shade and a rope point, it doesn't mean there's ballast underneath. If wakeboarding or wakesurfing's the goal, ask about ballast specifically, not just whether there's a tower.

2. Not checking seating against your group size. Both MasterCrafts seat 16, so this rarely bites people there, but the Cobalt R6 tops out at 14, so it's worth a quick headcount before you book.

3. Forgetting the age minimums. MasterCraft rentals need renters to be 21 or older. Everything else, including the Cobalts, is 19 and up. Bring photo ID either way.
