Here’s everything you need to know about boat rentals in Kelowna:
General Boat Rental FAQs
-
Can I rent a boat without a boater’s license?
Yes! If you have your own boater’s license, that’s great. If you don’t, no worries there, either. Downtown Marina will supply you with a temporary boater’s license when you rent your boat from us. Our team will also give you a full tour of your rental, covering safety features before you set sail. -
Can I consume alcohol before getting behind the wheel of my boat rental?
Absolutely not. We don’t mean to be party poopers, but here at Downtown Marina, we have a zero-tolerance policy on the consumption of alcohol or drugs before operating your boat rental, as it impairs judgment and is not safe for you or other boaters. Savour those drinks at one of the Marina’s gorgeous lakeside patios after you’ve returned your rental! -
Will insurance cover any accidental damage caused on my boating trip?
Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. When you rent the boat, we’ll run a pre-authorization on your credit card for a set amount (see below in the payments and cancellations section). If damages occur, the person who rents the boat is liable. Our team will walk around the boat with you and take lots of pictures during orientation, so we are all aware of any existing scratches or damage. -
How long is it recommended to rent a boat for?
The time period for your boat rental would depend on your itinerary for the day since there’s so much to do. However, 4-8 hours is usually enough time for exploring and pursuing water activities for most renters. Not sure what to plan for your day of lake fun? Check out our guide that combines boating with local attractions to visit! -
Can I still rent a boat even though I’ve never driven one before?
Yes, yes, and YES! At Downtown Marina, we want everyone to experience the joy of being on the lake in one of our boat rentals. Our team will give you a full orientation on how to operate the boat and make sure you feel safe and confident before leaving the dock, so don’t sweat it—there are firsts for everything! -
Does my boat rental include gas?
Yes! When you arrive to take your boat rental out for a spin, it will have a full tank of fuel. Upon returning from your water adventure, you will be charged to fill up the tank, so you’ll only pay for the amount of gas you used up. -
Can I bring my pet on the boat rental?
Yes, your furry friends are family, so why not? Just be sure to bring a life jacket and some extra water for your pet. If you need more tips, read our post on bringing your canine or feline friends on our pet-friendly boat rentals in Kelowna.
Payment and Cancellation must-know for your boat rental
-
What is the cancellation policy for a boat or jet-ski rental?
You must cancel your boat rental booking at least 48 hours in advance. If you fail to show up, the cost of the rental will be applied to your credit card in your absence. -
Can I use my debit, debit visa or cash to pay for my damage deposit?
We only accept credit cards for the initial damage deposit. However, once you return your boat rental, you can pay for it using any method that suits you best. -
How much is the pre-authorization cost for my boat rental?
-
For Chaparrals, Pontoon boats, Bayliners, and Seadoos, the pre-authorization fee is $1000 plus the cost of the rental. The pre-authorization fee for tournament boats, Cobalt R5/R6/R7, and the Regal LS4 is $2500, and the fee for kayaks and paddleboards is $250.
