Enjoy a peaceful connection with nature by taking it slow in a kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) rental.

As Kelowna tourism season ramps up, restaurants are filling, streets are clogging, and (almost) everyone is back at work in-person. But you don’t have to go far to get away from all the hustle and bustle – just make your way to your local marina for a kayak or stand-up paddleboard (SUP) rental!

Now, we hear you – how does a trip to downtown Kelowna help me get away? Downtown isn’t exactly known for being quiet in the summer.

Well, not to toot our own foghorn, but Downtown Marina’s proximity to the water has given us insight into how peaceful Lake Okanagan can be – especially with a kayak or SUP, which allows for a more tranquil water experience.

Here are just a few advantages to taking the time to stop and smell the (water) flowers:

1. Immersive Experience

Whether you’re in a kayak or standing on a board, you’re much closer to the water than in a boat. Without a motor, not only are you saving on boat fuel (good for your wallet and the environment) but now you’ve made yourself virtually noiseless as you glide through the water. Listen to the breeze and the birds as you take in the beautiful Okanagan Lake scenery.

Take it a step further and check out nature books available at Mosaic Books (currently highlighting local flora & fauna reads at checkout) and see if you can identify local plants or birds when you’re going with the flow.

2. Better Shoreline Access

Kayaks and SUPs have a superior draft, which means you get better access to shallow spots in the water and the shoreline. If your arms need a break from paddling, the local Kelowna lake beaches are close by for a rest.

Pack a lunch and paddle out to Tugboat Bay, take beachfront pictures on the iconic Hot Sands Beach, or watch the sunset on the secluded Cadder Avenue Beach Access.

3. Affordability

We don’t know about you, but saving money makes us feel a little more peaceful. Our paddle boat rentals are an inexpensive alternative to renting a boat for water activities (not to mention saving on gas - prices of which only seem to be climbing).

If you’re a morning person, you can get our early bird discount of $25/hour (between 8-10AM). If you’re not a morning person, maybe the thought of beating the heat, light boat activity, and saving a few bucks could convince you to try it at least once.
